Confirm the license
Ask for the license number and look it up with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. A business card or a truck decal is not proof of anything.
Ask for proof of insurance
Request a current certificate of insurance and check that it is still in force. If something goes wrong in your home, this is what covers it.
Get it in writing first
Scope and price in writing, signed, before any work starts. On a system replacement, get more than one quote and compare them side by side.
Your agreement is with the service professional, not with us. If one of them lets you down, tell us and we will stop sharing requests with them.

Who actually does the work?
An independent local service professional. RepairScouts is a referral service. We are not a contractor, we do not perform any work, and we do not employ the professionals we refer. Your agreement, your invoice, and your warranty are all with them.
Do you check that they are licensed and insured?
No. We do not verify licensing, insurance, pricing, or qualifications, and a referral through this site is not an endorsement. Customers should independently verify licensing, insurance, pricing, and qualifications before hiring. See Before you hire for what to ask for.
What happens to my phone number?
We may share your request with one or more local service professionals who cover your area, so they can contact you about this job. We do not sell it to data brokers or marketing lists. If you would rather not be contacted again, reply STOP to any text or tell any caller, and see our Privacy Policy.
Am I obligated to hire anyone?
No. Get the quote, sleep on it, get another one. On a system replacement we would encourage you to compare two or three. You owe us nothing regardless of what you decide.
What if something goes wrong with the work?
Your contract is with the service professional, so they are who you would take it up with, and their license and insurance are what protect you. That is why it is worth confirming both before work starts. Tell us as well and we will stop sharing requests with them.

When you submit a request we collect your name, phone number, city, ZIP code, the type of work you need, how urgent it is, and any details you add. Email is optional. We do not collect payment information, and we do not ask for financial or government identification numbers.
How we use it
We use your request to identify local service professionals who cover your area and work in the trade you selected, and to pass your request to them so they can contact you about the job. We also keep a record of the consent you gave when you submitted the form.
Who we share it with
We may share your request with one or more local service professionals who cover your area. We do not sell your information to data brokers or marketing lists, and we do not share it with anyone outside that purpose except where the law requires it.
Contact permission
By submitting the form you agree that RepairScouts and one or more local service professionals may contact you about your request by phone, text, or email, including with automated technology. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message and data rates may apply.
How to opt out
Reply STOP to any text message, or tell any caller you would like to be removed. You can also call us at (862) 755-2273 and we will delete your information from our records and stop sharing it. We cannot control records already held by a service professional you were connected with. To be removed from their records, contact them directly.
How long we keep it
We keep submitted requests for as long as we need them to operate the service and to retain a record of your consent, and then we delete them.

Children
This service is intended for adults arranging work on a home. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Any quote, contract, invoice, warranty, or dispute is between you and the service professional. RepairScouts is not responsible for the work performed, for any damage or loss arising from it, or for any dealings between you and anyone we refer.
Cost
The referral is free to homeowners. Service professionals may pay us a fee to receive requests. Any price for the work itself is set by the professional and agreed between you and them.
Accurate information
Please give accurate contact and job details. We cannot route a request correctly without them, and an inaccurate request may reach a professional who cannot help.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, RepairScouts is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of your use of this site or out of any referral made through it.
